Gecko-Inspired Sticky Tape to Heal Surgical Incisions

MIT researchers have developed a tape to replace surgical sutures and staples.

It relies on gecko-like “nanopillars” and a chemical glue for stickiness. The tape slowly breaks down inside the body without irritation, so it could also be made into drug-delivery patches for placement directly on organs, including the heart.
