New microprocessor runs on thin air

University of Michigan researchers have created a working low-cost 8-bit microprocessor that performs binary calculations using air pressure and a complicated nest of channels and valves.

It could improve “lab-on-a-chip” devices designed to automate complex chemistry tasks and improve disease testing, DNA profiling and other lab jobs.
