Are There Missing Pieces to the Human Genome Project?
May 6, 2008 | Source: Scientific American
University of Washington researchers studying genetic variations in eight individuals found more than 250 regions throughout the genome that may contain hundreds of new genes.
This study indicates that the Human Genome Project’s composite reference genome, made from the genetic codes of four people (two men and two women), is not complete and may contain rare alleles (versions of genes) not found in the majority of people.
