the SUMMARY |

The CHIPS + Science Act is a US federal statute enacted by the 117th US Congress, signed into law by US President Joe Biden in August 2022.

The act authorizes $280 billion in new funding to boost domestic research + manufacturing of semi-conductors in the US, for which it appropriates $52.7 billion.

The act includes $39 billion in subsidies for chip manufacturing on US soil along with 25% investment tax credits for costs of manufacturing equipment, and $13 billion for semi-conductor research + workforce training, with the dual aim of strengthening American supply chain resilience and countering China.

The act doesn’t have an official title but it’s divided into 3 divisions with their own.
