A synthetic version of a compound (pseudin-2) isolated from a frog, which protects it from infections, could be used to treat type 2 diabetes, University of Ulster and United Arab Emirates University suggest.

They found it stimulated the secretion of insulin in pancreatic cells in the laboratory, with no toxic effects.
