Head-up Displays go Holographic
October 16, 2009 | Source: Technology Review
A new compact projection device developed by Light Blue Optics uses “holographic projection*,” allowing it to be far smaller than current in-car head-up display** (HUD) systems — small enough to fit inside a rearview mirror.
* Holographic projectors use liquid crystal on silicon to modulate beams of red, green, and blue laser light to create a projected image through optical interference.
** A head-up display overlays information over what the user sees, such as a road.
