Kawada Industries and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have developed a new “HRP-4” robot that they hope will be a step towards creating a model that can help ease Japan’s looming labor shortage.

Kawada and AIST will start selling the $306,000 robot to universities and research institutes in Japan and abroad in January 2011.
