Discs with a storage capacity 2,000 times that of current DVDs could be commercially available within 5 to 10 years, based on resarch from Swinburne University of Technology.

Discs currently have three spatial dimensions, but inserting gold nanorods onto a disc’s surface, the researchers were able to introduce wavelength (color) and polarization dimensions.
