University of California, Davis, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory scientists have developed a powerful algorithm to extract and visualize useful features from today’s exponentially growing data sets.

The algorithm is based on a complex and formerly inaccessible mathematical tool called the Morse-Smale complex, which partitions sets by similarity of features and encodes them into mathematical terms.
