RTI International has developed a revolutionary, full-spectrum, white-light technology, based on a polymer nanofiber material, that is five times more energy-efficient than incandescent light bulbs and does not contain mercury, making it environmentally safer than the compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb.
Commercial products based on this technology are expected to become available in three to five years.
The project is funded by the Department of Energy.
